IP ratings are read as a single verdict far more often than they are read as two digits. On a connector they need a third qualifier as well — the state the part was in when it was tested.
The two digits
The first digit covers solids: 6 means dust tight, no ingress at all. The second covers water: 7 means protection against the effects of temporary immersion, defined in IEC 60529 as immersion in 1 m of water for 30 minutes. IP67 therefore says nothing about jets or high-pressure wash — that is the 5 and 6 water codes — and nothing about long-term submersion.
It describes a mated pair
The seal in a barrel connector lives between the plug and the socket, so an IP67 part is only IP67 when it is plugged in. An open socket on a bulkhead is an open hole. Real installations put a cap on the unused half, and the cap is part of the sealing system even though it never appears on the data sheet.
Three details the number ignores
- The panel joint. A flange socket is sealed to its housing by a gasket or an O-ring that is a separate part; the connector's rating does not transfer to a badly torqued flange.
- The cable entry. A rear seal sized for 2.5 mm² will not grip 6.0 mm² cable, and a loose grip is a leak path rather than a strain relief.
- Cycling. Ratings are established on new parts. Repeated mating wears the elastomer, and the service interval on a pack that is opened every season is not the same as a one-time installation.
Which parts here carry it
In this catalog IP67 is published on the 5-core ST533000, the two-core ST539000 / ST538000 pair, the four-core part, the MNS 350 A service switch and the full 80–400 A MNS ladder. The energy-storage connectors and most of the multi-core EV parts do not publish an IP rating at all, which is a gap in the source data rather than an implied no — it has to be asked for.
How to specify it usefully
Write the rating together with the condition: IP67 mated, with the flange gasket fitted, for the specified cable size. Add a wash requirement separately if the application includes one, because IP67 does not cover it. A supplier who answers that sentence specifically is more useful than one who simply agrees the part is waterproof.
